    Summer Programs at Stoneleigh-Burnham School

Stoneleigh-Burnham School offers a number of residential summer programs. Based on campus, the programs make use of our outstanding facilities and are directed by Stoneleigh-Burnham faculty. Our summer offerings emphasize the development of confidence, the acquisition of skills, and the discovery of new talents and abilities. They adhere to the same high standards set at Stoneleigh-Burnham during the academic year.

Stoneleigh-Burnham provides first-class facilities for academics, including the fine and performing arts. The athletic complex offers an outdoor pool, a gymnasium, a fitness center and five tennis courts. Students live in the well-equipped dormitories of the school and enjoy the full services of the school's dining hall.

Bonnie Castle Riding Camp - Celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 2011

    Program

Bonnie Castle Riding Camp features instruction at all levels in Hunters, Jumpers, Equitation, Dressage, Combined Training and Equine Studies. At the beginning of each session, the camper's ability is evaluated to determine her instructional needs and to help place her in an appropriate group. At the end of each session, all campers participate in shows with equitation and hunter classes. Each girl's daily schedule is supervised by the residential staff. Girls are busy, but can also find spare moments to read a book, take a swim or play a game of tennis. Campers are encouraged to take advantage of and to enjoy the outdoors.

Bonnie Castle campers average two daily mounted lessons each week day and have semi-private lessons each week with one of the Camp's experienced and dedicated instructors. The Camp's goal is to help girls develop and improve their riding skills through instruction, practice and competition appropriate for the beginning rider as well as for the more experienced young horsewoman. In addition to the intensive riding program, two additional electives are offered: Equine Studies and Activity (arts and crafts). A creative and cooperative atmosphere is stressed in every aspect of camp life. All activities, including field trips, are carefully and closely supervised by the Camp's superb counselors.

    Facilities
The School which was first established in 1869 took residence on the current campus in 1930 has one of the finest and most impressive equestrian facilities in the Northeast. Stabling for 60 horses is available in two separate barns. The indoor riding arena complex features a 100x200 indoor competition arena with a heated viewing lounge and an adjacent 70x120 indoor warm up arena.

Outdoors are two sand rings, a Derby Field with permanent European-style derby jumps, a cross-country course for beginner novice through preliminary levels and an extensive bridle path which rings the picturesque campus. A wash stall, two tack rooms, laundry facilities and lockers are available for campers' use.

    The Sorvino Dance Intensive

The Sorvino Dance Intensive is designed to give young dancers training with professional instructors in a beautiful, fun-filled location with a maximum of twenty-four students. Campers come to refine technique and prepare performance pieces. All Campers get a broad understanding of various styles while experiencing Western New England's rich dance offerings and artists. The Dance Camp is under the direction of Juilliard graduate and Stoneleigh-Burnham Dance Director Ann Sorvino.

A Voice of Her Own – A Public Speaking and Debate Experience

Through its continued commitment to the education of young women, Stoneleigh-Burnham School presents a residential Public Speaking and Debate Camp. Stoneleigh-Burnham's primary goal is to honor girls' voices, intellects, and passion for learning.

Staffed by Stoneleigh-Burnham's debate faculty and accomplished debaters, the camp is structured for a wide range of girls, from those who want to gain confidence in speaking publicly to those who wish to improve and implement oratorical, research and critical thinking skills. Many women in public life ascribe their success in part to their early training in debate and public speaking.
