  • Description:

Campers at Saltash Mountain (SAM) spend many of their summer days on the trail and the rivers of New England. For five of the eight weeks, all of the campers are exploring on trips for three to seven days. Six to eight campers go on each trip with two highly experienced counselors.

Over the summer, campers have the opportunity to sample adventures in Vermont, New Hampshire, New York and Maine - from rock clmbing Deer's Leap, canoeing on Flagstaff Lake in Maine, hiking a 5,000 foot peak in the White Mountains, working a section of the Appalachian Trail, or ascending Camel's Hump on Vermont's Long Trail.

Each Trip is unique. Out on the trail campers develop and use outdoor skills such as fire building, cooking, making knots, Leave No Trace camping, and using a map and compass. This is where SAM friendships and community are forged, the natural world explored and self-discoveries are made.

Life at camp between trips has a rhythm all its own. Mornings start with camp chores and throughout the session everyone pitches in to was dishes - some of the best songs coming from the kitchen!  Other activities may include playing guitar and singing songs, swimming at the waterfront, holding an edible art show, tie-dying our t-shirts or beading necklaces. At night the entire camp gathers for an activity.

Whether hiking along a mountain ridge, paddling a river, singing songs around a camp fire or relaxing after a swim in Lake Ninevah, SAM camp is an adventure full of fun, community and learning.
