During this fabulous program, students will have the opportunity to connect with other GLBT youth and develop a greater understanding of their GLBT identity. Daily workshops will introduce such topics as GLBT history, queer theory, homosexuality and religion, queer pop culture, coming out at college, safer sex, community resources and more.  Students will learn to become trainers for a Safe Zone program and will lead a training for other the institute students.  Students will also participate in some workshops with students from the Peer Health Education Institute to foster personal growth in leadership skills. In addition, students will have a birds-eye view of Boston from the Prudential Center Observatory, quack like a duck on Boston’s famed duck tour, spend a day touring Provincetown and shop till they drop along Newbury Street. It’s all included in the GLBT Awareness Institute!

This program is open to all high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. Students do not need to identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender in order to participate.

Suffolk University, founded in 1906 by Gleason L. Archer as Suffolk School of Law is now a comprehensive university located on Boston's historic Beacon Hill. With residence hall facilities on Tremont Street across from the Common and a new residence hall on Beacon Hill, the Law School building at lower Tremont Street and the New England School of Art & Design at Suffolk University near the Public Garden in Park Square, the university circles the mid-town public parks in our urban version of the traditional campus quadrangle.
